The next time we saw our server was when she delivered our appetizers, about 15 minutes later. We asked for silverware ,since none had been provided, and a cup with napkins and chopsticks was dropped off at the table. We didn't discover that there were no forks or spoons until after the server had left, but this is forgivable since it is a Japanese restaurant after all. Our server also neglected to bring our five-year-old his steamed rice, which we didn't mention at the time, assuming she was going to make a second trip to get that too. In the meantime, we had to try to keep him occupied while we waited for our server to either bring the rice or pass through for us to ask about it.
Both indoor and shaded outdoor seating paired with a nice sushi and sashimi selection makes this place great for a nice night out.
We waited over 15 minutes and nobody came by to check on us, so I went inside to complain and ask about the rice. I asked to speak to a manager and our server asked if something was wrong. I laid out everything that had gone wrong so far: no service after being seated, seeing our server only once in nearly an hour, no food for our son, etc. Her solution was to get us the steamed rice "right away and on the house." Really? A $2 order of rice for free to make up for an hour of neglecting a customer??
I asked again to speak with the manager on duty and waited nearly 10 minutes for him to come by. I explained everything that had gone wrong, he apologized and mentioned that their hostess and service staff needed to communicate better. I bit my tongue from responding that the service staff needed to communicate with their customers, period. Ultimately, he took a $7 sushi roll off of our check, which was a nice (albeit small) gesture, but beside the point.
Our experience wasn't an isolated incident. While we were there, we saw two other tables get up and leave after being seated and waiting at lest 10 minutes for someone to come to their tables. It wasn't even a busy night. There were less than 10 tables seated in the whole restaurant during our visit and there were two servers working. The tables didn't arrive in one big rush, but gradually came in, so it wasn't as though the staff was suddenly bombarded and overwhelmed. Having worked as a server for many years, I can confidently say that five tables per server is not a heavy load to manage. I understand that "stuff happens" and could have forgiven a mistake or two, but the start-to-finish experience we had was just ridiculous and completely inexcusable. I'm not sure what the heck happened, but I don't anticipate that we will be going back again any time soon.
Spectacular Asian food for a great price, tastes amazing and is presented beautifully.
My husband and I just had the best sushi at Asiana! Not only has the food been consistent and delicious for as long as we've patronized the restaurant, but the waitstaff is wonderful, knowledgable and professional!! We are grateful for this gem in Montpelier!
Let me start by saying that I've been here in the past and had a good time, so I know that this place can provide a decent guest experience. However, last night was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had and was so bad that I really don't know if I'm willing to risk a repeat by giving Asiana House anther chance.
Food and sushi were below average. Service was awful. A little overpriced. Will not be going back.
We didn't see a server again until the main course came out along with our check. Throughout the course of our visit, I got up three times to go track somebody down to get things that we needed, because nobody was coming by to check on us. On top of that, I asked two different people for a spoon four times, and never got one, so our son was unable to eat his food anyway.
We were seated on the patio by the hostess and then waited 15 minutes before anybody came by to see us. When a server came by, she seemed confused as to who's table we were supposed to be, but said she would take care of us. We put in our entire order, since we had had enough time to figure out everything we wanted.
